Lannyte sells man made gems that fall under two categories
The Lannyte Company sells the following type of man-made stones
Lannyte does sell “real” diamonds, this would be what we call the “Lab Diamond” (aka Lab Grown Diamond or Lab Created Diamond). These Diamonds are chemically and physically the same as “Natural Diamonds” which are mined from the earth. Our “Simulated Diamonds” on the other hand are not considered “real” diamonds because they are not chemically identical to Earth Mined diamonds.
First of all, “Lab Grown” and “Lab Created” diamonds refer to the same type of stone, they mean the same thing.
Moissanite and Lannyte Simulated Diamonds are substitutes in terms of diamond simulants, and they are not the same. The Lannyte Simulated Diamond differs from a Moissanite in a few significant ways:
Yes, they are.
All, with the exception of the stones listed below, Lannyte Gemstones come with a Lifetime Warranty. The following is our complete Warranty:
“If, following the purchase of the Lannyte gemstone, the Lannyte gemstone becomes cracked, chipped, discolored, or broken in the course of normal domestic use, The Lannyte Company will replace the Lannyte gemstone. The replacement will be at no cost or obligation to the buyer, upon delivery of the destroyed or damaged Lannyte gemstone, together with satisfactory proof of purchase and this guarantee form, to the Jeweler from whom the Lannyte gemstone was purchased. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary herein contained, the Lannyte Company shall not be liable for any consequential damages suffered by the buyer from any cause whatsoever. The parties agree that the replacement of the Lannyte gemstone will constitute the buyer’s sole remedy and the Lannyte Company’s sole obligation.”
The stones not covered in the Warranty are the following:
The rule of thumb is that a gemstone should be at least a 7 on the Mohs scale for general jewelry use. At Lannyte, we know that it really matters where, on your person, you are wearing the jewelry. If worn on the finger or wrist the gemstone will come into contact with many surfaces and the wear and tear will be relatively high, we recommend it be an 8, if worn on the neck or ear, our recommendation is at least a 7.
The fact of the matter is that your gemstone is at its most vulnerable when it is being set, and after that, unless you’re going to be slamming it against hard surfaces repeatedly, there is not much reason to worry about it being harder than an 8. This does not mean your jewelry will not accumulate wear, tear, dirt and scuffs over the years. This is why our stones are warrantied!
In case you want to have the hardest stone possible, our lab grown diamonds are chemically and physically the same as natural diamonds so they are a 10 on the Mohs hardness scale.
Although Lannyte sells stones of many different composition, all of these stones can handle the required heat to have them set in jewelry with the exception of our “Lab Grown Columbian Green” and our “Lab Emerald” because, like natural Emerald, they are made from Beryl which is heat sensitive. They can still be set in jewelry, but care must be taken to do so.
-Heat sensitive stones
-Heat tolerant stones
-Very Heat tolerant stones
Glass generally has a harness of about 6.7 to 7 so anything with a hardness greater will cut it. People make a big fuss about hardness (marketing diamonds) but so long as the hardness of your gemstone is greater than the dust in the air (usually quartz-hardness approx. 7.5) the only reason to think about hardness is for industrial purposes. In any case we guarantee our stones against damage from ANY cause do you don’t need to worry.
As explained above, your jewelry does not need to be a 10 in the hardness scale, so this is not the reason to pay so much more for an Earth Mined Diamond, and this is the single greatest difference between a diamond and a simulant.
Now with the prevalence of the Lab Grown Diamond, the main reason to pay so much more for an Earth Mined Diamond is just to show how serious you are about your commitment or gesture to your loved one, but we believe this commitment can be shown by spending money on so many other things rather than a rock which can easily be lost or stolen. Jewelry is something to adorn and beautify, not to invest your savings in. At Lannyte our goal is to match and surpass the beauty of the Earth mined gem so that you can invest in what you deem valuable. Whether it be a rich experience or Real Estate!
There are two general types of Lannyte gemstones, Labratory Created (synonymous with “Lab Grown”) and Simulated. Both types of Lannyte gemstones are held to a very high standard and must meet several stringent criteria. The primary difference between these two types of gems is that by industry standards “Lab Created” (also known as “Lab Grown”) gems must be the same chemical composition as the original earth mined gem and “Simulated” gems do not need to be the same chemical composition.
Recent advancements in science and technology have catapulted simulated diamonds to a whole new level. These advancements allow Lannyte to make wonderful colors in the lab with high quality rough material that produce great fire and resemble the most rare and beautiful of gems. When this rough material does not match the original in chemical composition, then it must be called a “simulated” version of the original. In reality you are getting a stone with a hand selected vibrant color that is more durable than the real thing!
The Lannyte Colorless White Simulated Diamond is made from Zirconium Dioxide along with a proprietary blend of substances and processes which make its physical characteristics closer to that of a diamond than any other simulant, including Moissanite and common CZ’s. Our founder, Bob Silverman, conducted years of research and development in the 1980’s to find that Zirconium Dioxide, if manufactured without cutting corners using a specific method and a few additional proprietary substances, is the single best diamond simulant due to its single refractivity, overall light refraction index, and durability.
To begin with, Lannyte has a highly exclusive rough selection process which ensures we only start with the cream of the crop. Our rough goes through a rigorous selection process which rejects typically 80% of the raw material. With the remaining 20% that has passed the inspection points, Lannyte gems are hand cut and polished by experienced artisans just like natural diamonds.
Particularly during the end of the 20th century we witnessed the jewelry industry engage in a “race to the bottom” in terms of production for quantity at the cost of quality. This trend has only increased ever since. Our mission at Lannyte is to defy this trend and spare no expense to craft our stones, no matter the roadblocks.
Nearly all diamond simulants including “CZ’s” are are poorly cut and polished for cheap mass production to meet the lowest price points. Most people are unaware that Zirconium comes in many different qualities, and features significant variation in physical properties in the rough material. Common CZ’s are made for mass production from the lowest quality and cheapest rough material possible and the results are apparent in the finished product. Great care and precision are used in the cutting and polishing of our stones, and this leads to a higher cost. After individual hand cutting and polishing, our stones go through additional proprietary processes which ensure the highest possible integrity and shine. We spare no expense to treat and manufacture our premium rough material just like natural diamonds from start to finish, and this is what sets Lannyte apart. The difference is in the end product, and this is why we encourage you to visit a dealer near you to see it for yourself.
We stand behind our stones with a lifetime warranty which includes replacement even upon every-day wear and tear.
The point is that although the Lannyte Simulated Diamond shares a common base ingredient with a CZ, being Zirconium, the differences are vast in rough material quality, production, and end-result. We encourage you to visit your nearest dealer to see the difference yourself. Visit our media center featuring videos and side-by-side comparisons of diamond simulants.
Lannyte’s Simulated Gems are verified to be sustainable for the earth and conflict free. Many earth mined gems are not. In addition, we make sure our cutting and polishing is done under fair and ethical working conditions.
It took years for Lannyte to choose the rough materials that now make up our line of simulated diamonds and gemstones. The following are the criteria that all our simulated stones must meet in a nutshell.
Lab Created also known as “Lab Grown” Gemstones are separated by their earth mined counterparts by one thing alone: where it’s made. Natural gems are made in the earth, Lab Created Gems are made in a lab, otherwise they are physically, chemically, and aesthetically identical. The following are the main reasons why people opt for Lab Created/Grown Gems over their earth mined counterparts:
1. Sustainable & Conflict Free
2. Cost
3. Beauty
At Lannyte we replicate the best and most in demand hues that come from the earth. That’s the beauty of creating it in the lab!
In addition, keep in mind, Lannyte’s Lab Created Gems are verified to be sustainable for the earth and conflict free. Many Earth mined gems are not. In addition, we make sure our cutting and polishing is done under fair and ethical working conditions.
